Step 1 - Initial Phone call
We begin with a brief conversation over the phone lasting 10 to 15 minutes where I will ask you some general questions about your current and past situation and what you are seeking help for.
Whether you have experienced counseling before or are completely unfamiliar with the experience this time will help us get to know each other and determine if we are a good fit in terms of working together.
|I will answer any questions you may have of me regarding my philosophy and the way I work. We can also discuss my rates and availability. We can then set up an appointment for a more in depth and personal session. All contact made by phone or in person is treated as confidential information consistent with Ethical Practice Standards with the exceptions noted in the confidentiality section of the Informed Consent Form. (see Tab below)
Step 2 - Initial In –person session
This appointment will serve to deepen our knowledge of each other. I may begin a genogram of your family tree to better understand the family system you are coming from. I will also support you to articulate what your expectations are of the therapeutic process and what you hope to gain from therapy. It would be helpful if you come to the session having considered what your specific goal in therapy might be, what outcome you would like to achieve. If you are unsure of your goal and simply feel you need support and assistance we can work on your goal together at your first session.
What to Bring
We will make better use of your time if you complete the Informed Consent and the Intake form and bring it to our first session. Also the use of a journal will support you in our work together. Please bring your journal to every session.
