Self-discovery is crucial to living an authentic and fulfilling life.
Most people come into therapy with a problem they want to get rid of or solve. Our culture values being practical and solution based, logical and rational. This is the language of the conscious mind. And yet when you understand that your brain is wired to perceive the present through the filter of your past experiences you realize how vital it is to also examine your unconscious mind.
Most people never give a second thought to their unconscious mind and how truly powerful it is, so rather than looking at a problem at its root…at it’s source…they assume it can be changed at the surface level.
Change jobs, change partners, change locations and the problem will go away. Yet that is not what happens. Until you learn how to change the problem at the level it was created, many patterns just keep repeating.
What we work on in our sessions has direct and immediate benefit in your life. Tell me what outcome you desire and we will work on what is stopping you from having it. This kind of therapy goes far beyond simply talking.
You will learn many valuable tools in our co-creative work, from managing stress, lowering anxiety and meditating, to accessing and communicating feelings in a healthy way. Mindfulness and increased freedom become your norm and as your authentic self guides your life, many challenges transform into opportunities. Life takes on more meaning and ease, goals become achievable and your direction becomes clear.
I practice a Body Centered Therapy with a unique transpersonal modality that combines a deep experience of the unconscious with a bridge that translates those discoveries into action.
How Will We Do This?
First we start with getting to know each other. I will always be honest with you and encourage asking questions. You formulate a goal for therapy and we start with an exploration of your family history, a three generation genogram. We will look at patterns and beliefs that you may have inherited and internalized that are no longer serving you.
Once you feel comfortable we will begin to creatively bring your current struggle into the room. I will invite you to try various inner processes in order to directly access information that is held in your unconscious…in your body. This kind of work will bring up feelings and it’s important for you to know that we will always work at your pace. You always have the right to ask for greater understanding or to slow things down. Ultimately you are in charge of deciding whether you want to participate in any exercise I may propose or assignment I suggest outside of session time.
There is an educational component to our work if you are interested. I can facilitate stress reducing techniques, meditation practices, as well as helping you identify your needs and values, use healthy communication tools and have clear and strong boundaries.
Perhaps at times you would rather simply talk and examine your situation from a cognitive perspective. That too is possible. This is a co-creative process and what works for you is key.
